Our Facilities

Our Home is in a lovely Grade 2 listed building on the outskirts of Bath in the thriving community of Larkhall.

The home is centrally heated and is fitted with appropriate fire detection systems. Both these systems have maintenance contracts which ensure that they operate efficiently and the fire alarm is tested every week. Details of the procedure to be followed in the event of an emergency are displayed in each resident's room.

On the ground floor there is a large sitting room where residents can meet, listen to the radio, play tapes and CD's or watch the TV or video. Leading from the lounge, through french windows, there is a shaded balcony which, during the summer months allows you to enjoy being outside, but provides protection from the heat of the Midday sun.

Rooms

A selection of rooms are available for you to choose from.

Each room is decorated and furnished to a high standard, although each resident is encouraged to personalise their room with items that are special to them.

Rooms that do not have their own en-suite facilities are fitted with wash basins and vanity units.

All the rooms are fitted with a ‘call bell’ system, which operates 24 hours per day, and with a TV aerial socket. Some residents have also had direct telephone lines installed into their rooms.

On the ground floor there are 5 single rooms 2 of which have en-suite facilities. The remainder have access to the 2 toilets and a bathroom that are also on the ground floor. The bathroom has a specially adapted bath which allows easy access.

There are a further 13 rooms on the first floor, (accessed by either the passenger lift or the staircases) 2 of which are companion rooms, sleeping two.

Of the remaining 11 rooms 7 have level access from the lift and of those 6 have en-suite facilities. A further bathroom and toilet are available on this level.

Also on the first floor, but down 4 steps, are a further 4 rooms 1 of which has en-suite facilities. The rooms on this level have access to the toilet and bathroom facilities already mentioned, plus a further separate toilet and bathroom. These rooms are suitable for use by residents who are sufficiently mobile to be able to manage stairs safely.

Accessibility

Due to the age and status of our building (grade 2 listed) it is not possible to meet the size standards set for rooms in newly built care homes. They do however meet the criteria for ‘pre-existing’ care homes.

The layout of the home is not suitable for residents who use a wheelchair, propelled by themselves, to maintain their mobility. Suitable arrangements can be made for residents wishing to use a wheelchair as long as it is propelled by a member of staff.

General Facilities

At the front of the house overlooking the patio and gardens there are 2 sun lounges which in the summer can be protected from the heat of the sun by electrically operated sun awnings and which make an ideal area for reading or meeting family and friends.

Outside the home, at the rear of the property, is a shady patio and a small garden where residents who are interested are encouraged to grow vegetables.

To the front of the property is a large south-west facing patio with garden furniture overlooking the lawns and with views towards Bath.

For the comfort and wellbeing of our residents there is a no-smoking policy throughout the home.

Also operating from the building is our sister company, Bath Community Care Ltd, a domiciliary care company which provides support to clients in their own homes. This is complementary to the service that we provide to our residents and on occasions home based clients may come to Oriel Lodge for the day to enjoy a meal out and the company of others
